What to Look For in a Chemistry Supply Store

What to Look For in a Chemistry Supply StoreWhether you're working on a chemistry project or in school, finding the right supplies can be a little confusing. Before you spend your money on science kits, take the time to browse through the chemistry supply store to find the best supplies. This way, you can find all the tools and supplies that you need. The first step in finding the science kit that you need is to find out if you want one that is new or used. New kits are ones that are used to test chemicals. A used kit will be used to test and evaluate a chemical's properties and reactions. If you want a kit to use at home, an original kit is probably what you should get.In addition to whether it is new or used, you should also check if the kit is real brand new or second hand. If it is a new kit that has not been used, it is likely that it will be cheaply made. There are many better kits that are a lot more expensive. It is also important to know whether the kit is genuine chemistry su pplies that you can really trust. Sometimes a kit comes from a supplier who wants to sell it to you, and they make up as many ingredients as possible to keep the cost down. Instead of getting the real deal, you get a cheaper kit.If you do find a cheap science kit, you should be wary about buying from a second hand supplier. It is possible that they are just trying to save some money, but they might just be selling you a fake chemistry kit.In addition to knowing whether the kit is new or used, you should also compare the price of the chemistry supply store to other shops. You should be able to find a cheap one, but the difference between two stores could be substantial. When you find a chemistry supply store, you should check to see what their return policy is. If the kits are faulty, a second chance to return them is probably better than waiting for the store to rip you off.One thing to consider when looking for a chemistry supply store is whether you are actually going to buy from t hem. If you do, it is much better to have a good chemistry supply store with a long history. Otherwise, the kits may not be authentic.

Principles of Evolution

Principles of Evolution In science classes at most educational levels, it's difficult to avoid the theory of evolution formulated by Charles Darwin. In his famous book, On the Origin of Species, Darwin outlines his theory of evolution based upon the singular idea of natural selection. Natural selection suggests that the strongest traits, whether physical or psychological, will be passed down from generation to generation. Evolution occurs as a result of natural selection, which can also be described as a gradual loss of weaker traits. In a nutshell, Darwin's theory of evolution involves three key principles: variability, differential fitness, and heritability. 1. Variability This principle involves differences in genetic makeup among communities. Darwin noted unique physical and behavioural qualities among human groups that resulted out of pure chance. Alterations in genetics occur over time, as the traits that encourage survival are passed on to subsequent generations. These changes happen naturally, as new combinations of genes are created with each new generation. Reproduction causes genetic components from both parties to create an entirely new makeup of DNA in the offspring. As Darwin noted in the 19th century, variety in the DNA of people will always exist. 2. Differential Fitness This principle involves the differentiation that will naturally occur within the makeup of one species to the next. Several unique factors affect the genetic composition of a society over time. For example, the environment in which a people finds itself living results in various traits being passed on or withheld from the next generation. Adaptation occurs as a direct result of where people and animals live. Traits that spur survival and thriving in a given society and environment will carry on, allowing for differential fitness in future generations. 3. Heritability This third and final principle of evolution highlights the need for variation in societies in order for them to successfully proliferate themselves. Even early scientists theorising evolution noticed that a variety of genetic traits coming together produce a more dynamic, survivable creature. This is the reason why humans that share DNA should not procreate, as their offspring might be plagued by physical and mental mutations. Survival of the fittest is one of the key theories of Darwinian evolution and natural selection. It involves the strongest heritable traits being passed down from generation to generation. Though evolution is a hotly debated topic in many circles, there is much scientific evidence that makes a case for its existence. Every species physically adapts and changes over time; this is an observable truth. Just how and why these adaptations occur is where the mystery sometimes lies. If you're interested in learning more about the theory of evolution, check out Darwin's On the Origin of Species.

Chicken Breast Chicken breast is protein dense and low in sodium, which means that it is filling as well an excellent way to meet the necessary daily protein requirement. According to an article by Neil Osterweil on WebMD.com (The Benefits of Protein), “Protein is an important component of every cell in the body. Hair and nails are mostly made of protein. Your body uses protein to build and repair tissues. You also use protein to make enzymes, hormones, and other body chemicals. Protein is an important building block of bones, muscles, cartilage, skin, and blood.” Since protein doesn’t get stored in the body, it important to make sure that one is getting the right amount of protein for hormone stability and body chemicals. Chicken breast is a lean meat that can be sautéed, grilled, or baked and still provide a substantial amount of protein. It is an especially good food for college athletes because it aids in muscle maintenance. Via Pexels 4. Greek Yogurt The gut is lined with healthy bacteria that breaks down food in order to harvest the nutrients of the food that passes through the stomach. This is especially important to look out for because it affects one’s digestive health, mood, and anxiety. Greek yogurt, particularly the one without any extraneous processed additives, is an excellent source of probiotics. It is easily paired with some nuts, fruits, granola, and many other toppings. This can be easily stored in a fridge and taken on the go, making it an optimal snack for college students in a rush. Via Pixabay 5. Sweet Potatoes Contrary to the golden potato, which is commonly found in supermarkets, the sweet potato is softer. It is an excellent food for combating bodily stress and promoting relaxation due to its high amounts of magnesium. It is no secret that college students face large amounts of stress during the school semester, which takes a high toll on the body. Magnesium found in sweet potatoes potentially leads to a more alert and can improve daily brain function. Sweet potatoes can be boiled, fried, baked, or mashed as well as be accompanied by dried fruits such as raisins for an additional nutritional boost. A nutrient-rich diet is especially crucial for college students, who are constantly exposed to stress related to academic work and school involvement. How To Handle Job Rejection

How To Handle Job Rejection Photo by rawpixel.com from Pexels Do Not Take It Personally The best thing a college student can do when being rejected for job after job after job is not to take the rejection personally. A student cannot blame themselves or think that something is wrong with themselves or that they were not good enough for a particular job. Odds are, they were good enough. But there are always so many other factors at play in these kinds of situations that a student cannot predict or plan ahead for that affect these decisions. Perhaps you had all the requisite skills needed, but your schedule was not the best match. Maybe one of your references never returned the potential employer’s calls. Maybe after they opened up the position to applications, they discovered they had someone working for them already that was suited for the job. Maybe they decided to hire no one for the position. Maybe someone applied that got vouched for by someone who already worked at the company. The list could go on and on. There are so many reasons why someone might not get hired that have absolutely nothing to do with their application, their skills, or anything that actually has to do with them and what they have to offer. Nothing they have personally done affected the final outcome, so in turn, college students should not take these rejections personally either. Just keep powering on and applying for those jobsâ€"you will get one of them as long as you keep trying and do not allow yourself to get discouraged! Photo by Moose Photos from Pexels Avoid Burning Bridges Another important aspect of handling job rejections is to avoid burning any bridges through your rejection. How could I be the one to burn a bridge? They are the ones who rejected me. They have burned their bridge with me rather than the other way around! You might be thinking. However, not accepting your rejection with grace could lead to you burning your bridge with this company. You could burn a bridge with a company by being rude or belligerent when rejected; by refusing to accept the no you received; by insulting the company or calling out employees. There are a lot of ways you could burn the bridge with a company. And you might not intend to (or maybe you do because you are so, so mad). But burning your bridge with a company is not going to help you get a job. It is only going to stop you from ever getting a job with that company ever. And why shouldn’t you burn your bridges? They rejected you, they did not want you, they did not see worth in youâ€"actually, stop right there. While it is true that they may have rejected you, unless they have told you otherwise, you cannot prove the rest. And as discussed in the previous point, there are many reasons why an applicant may be rejected that have nothing to do with them as a person or applicant. Why burn your bridge when instead you might like to apply to work for that company again in the future or perhaps another slot will open up and they might invite you to take that position? You never know what the future will hold, so stay positive, strong, and most of all, motivated.

The Cost of a Cosmetic Chemistry Degree

The Cost of a Cosmetic Chemistry DegreeAs with most undergraduate degrees, the cost of a cosmetic chemistry degree can vary. These programs offer some flexibility when it comes to paying for them, with most available at a low cost if one is ready to sacrifice their current job in order to do this. There are those who will need to secure an in-demand position in order to be able to afford such an expensive program.Cosmetic chemistry as a field has made great progress over the years. One can get a lot of information on this field in the books that are available. Of course, the internet is the best place to get all the information you need. Here is a look at some things you should know when looking into the field.Clinical Pharmacology. A certified cosmetic chemist will often work within the field of clinical pharmacology. This is where the chemicals used in cosmetic products will be administered to help someone with skin problems.Pharmacology is a complicated field, and there are no sim ple classes to get into it. You will have to spend many months studying at the university level before you start to be able to take the pharmacology courses at the graduate level. Once you do, you may be awarded a PhD.Liposuction. Many will use this method to help with a number of different body problems. Many beauty gurus will use this technique to reduce weight, and many will use this method to improve your appearance. Liposuction is a procedure where fat cells are extracted from the body and the use of chemicals to melt these cells will be performed. Many people are wondering how to become a cosmetic surgeon. Even if you do not want to become a doctor, there are still a number of jobs available in this field. These include cosmetic surgeons, who help out with surgeries. These jobs are also open to those who wish to take up research into this field, and the many new discoveries that have been made in this field.Chemical engineers are also well represented in this field. There are m any ways that these companies use these engineers to build new technologies and tools. The outlook for the future of cosmetics is very bright, as one can expect to see the field grow even more in the coming years.

What Is Precision in Chemistry?

What Is Precision in Chemistry?Let's find out what is precision in chemistry. Precision in chemistry is very essential in a lab environment, and the higher the level of precision, the better it is for the laboratory environment. Any lab or laboratory that can produce high quality results will have a small and precise amount of materials. High precision needs high quality will come with precision. So what is the precision and how does it help our labs that we work in? Firstly, precision means being exact about a lot of things, such as quantities, measurements, and the like. In chemistry, for example, many of the measurements that are required in laboratories are of very low precision. For instance, one might use a sheet of paper, put a drop of ink on it, and it will mark up a few tenths of an inch.Often, the only way to know what that tiny drop of ink marked up was is to have a source of precision and high quality information that tells you exactly how much the drop of ink cost. This i s where the use of an analyzer is so crucial. There are many different types of analyzers, from simple ones, such as a colorimeter, to more complex ones, such as gas chromatographs, mass spectrometers, and others. What is the best way to ensure high precision? For example, one might have a routine of inspecting all of the equipment that is being used. While there is nothing wrong with that, it is really not something that everyone does. Instead, there are other ways to ensure high precision that might be more effective for your lab or laboratory. One good way to ensure precision is to have a good company that will inspect everything before it is used. You might even choose to have their company replace any broken equipment that is still being used in your lab. The tools they use might cost a bit more, but they will keep all of the analyzers and other products working in the lab. They can also give you assurance that the materials that you need will be done properly made. The use of a g ood company that inspects all of the lab is also essential for people who want to go to the next level in their career, for example, to go to a PhD program or get a PhD. A lot of them will require samples that will be used by someone in a lab. The only problem is that the methods for making these samples are not high quality, they might not be entirely accurate, and they might be slightly inaccurate. With the aid of a high quality lab that will do a thorough examination of the samples that will be needed by your graduate student, you will not have any problems finding the samples, and your graduate student will be able to handle the samples without any errors. You might also find that the samples that you need will be used in more than one lab. For instance, the oil sample might be used in another lab. This means that you have two lab systems to run to ensure the samples are not being mishandled. You will also have the security to assure that the lab will be in good working order whe n you need it.

Key Tips to Do Better In Algebra - Online Math Tutor

Key Tips to Do Better In Algebra - Online Math Tutor Algebra can be confusing with its interplay of alphabets and numbers. It surely bring your grades down if you don’t understand it well. Boost your test grades with ease by following few easy algebra tricks. Tips that can assist the students to evade those silly mistakes which are made mostly on tests. Students might know that the small mistakes in their answers drop them from A grade to C grade. If they take the benefit of these minute significant shortcuts, you can be guaranteed to make lesser number of mistakes in your algebra. Here are some key tips to do better in Algebra: Determination. Try to understand even the simplest ideas deeply. Hard work. Enjoy also. Don’t stress yourself. Analyze what the teacher might give you and give priority to it without neglecting other topics. Group study with smart people and teach your dull fellows as well. Use resources like Algebra index, Khan Academy, you tube etc. Thus the aim is to end thinking much about math in a formal way. Avoid the conventional processes, and skip out few steps which do not need to be shown. An algebra homework help can exhibit you where skipping steps is required. Else they can make such silly mistakes. We have narrowed down some of the most common mistakes here. This has brought them to you in order to help you perform better. Read on to learn some of the elementary mistakes students are known to make in algebra tests. The age old sign change algebra problem This is quite common and almost everyone has done it at least once in their lifetime. Negative signs are confusing. They are there in your problems simply to add extra confusion and trick you! They simply couldnt be easier were you to handle it with a little bit of care. Try and minimize the negative signs found in the equation. You can either multiply by (-1) throughout and this will make your job easier. Now, of course you know to do this but what happens in most cases is that some students forget to change the sign of one element or two in the equation. Here’s a simple trick which you probably already know that most online math tutors swear by: simply change the sign of every element in the equation and start from the right or left side and go straight down or up the line and be consistent with what you do (meaning do the sign change for every element). Why add and subtract when you can simply move algebra around? This is yet another common and unnecessary step which is albeit the correct thing to do. If you have an equation that has a -20 on the side and say a +15 on one side, students typically add +20 on both the sides and though this is right, why not simply move the -20 to the other side of the equation which will make it +15+20 on the right which equals 35? Eliminating unnecessary steps will help you avoid mistakes and this is something most tutors insist upon when students seek math homework help online. And this is a very good thing to remember and practice for it will help you reduce errors. Instead of multiplying or dividing a number on both sides, simply cross multiply! When you have say (a/b) = (c/d), the equation simply boils down to ad = bc and to get at this, you would typically multiply b on both the sides and then proceed with multiplying d on both the sides. As it happens, this is the right procedure but then more the number of steps, more the likelihood that you make a mistake somewhere. Cross multiplying is effortless and easy and eliminates the likelihood of making mistakes and this is why we recommend that you try this out. Working with word problems made easy The fundamental problem with algebra is of course the fact that it begins combining alphabets and numbers and brings exponents and what not into the picture! Word problems are trickier for you need to translate them into algebraic equations and then work them out. We suggest that you look out for terms such as factored by, increased by, adds up to, etc. that indicate what exactly is happening with the numbers and then write them down. Also, don’t stop once your math part is over; reread the question and see if you’ve actually answered what has been asked and then move on to the next. We believe that following these tips will help you reduce the number of mistakes when it comes to algebra problem solving and thus help you score better. We have more tips to give out in the same department, watch this space for more algebra tips.

What is it Like to Attend University of Hawaii at Manoa

What is it Like to Attend University of Hawaii at Manoa The tutors behind Varsity Tutors are not just here to teach theyre sharing their college experiences as well. Gavin holds a Bachelors degree in Meteorology from University of Hawaii at Manoa. He graduated in 2012 and currently tutors in Los Angeles, specializing in several subjects including GRE prep tutoring, Algebra tutoring, and Physics tutoring. See what he had to say about his time at school in Hawaii: VT: Describe the campus setting and transportation options. How urban or safe is the campus? Are there buses or do you need a car/bike? Gavin: The UH Manoa campus lies in the Manoa Valley, only a few miles from Waikiki Beach and Diamond Head and is just on the outer edge of Honolulu. With the newly instated bus pass, tuition students get a free bus pass included. For those farther away, cars are recommended for faster transportation options. Living on campus, there are bike racks scattered all over campus and if you live a few miles from campus, bikes might be the best option for time purposes. VT: How available are the professors, academic advisers, and teaching assistants? Gavin: My favorite part of the college experience was my academic adviser. Without her I would have been lost. When it comes to professors, there are amazing ones and not so amazing ones and I had the fortune (and misfortune) of having both. TA's for the better part were helpful and sometimes even better than the professor counterpart. I felt more comfortable talking to TA's than teachers. VT: How would you describe the dorm life rooms, dining options, location, socialization opportunities with other students? Gavin: There are dozens upon dozens of club at UH, and if you can think of something they will most likely have it. There are 4 towers for freshman dorming, a newly furnished and air-conditioned dorm, 2 apartment towers, a suite-like tower building for upperclassmen, and 2 other dorms that house freshmen as well as upperclassmen. Each dorm usually has activities and the RA's come up with events usually once a week to help those who aren't sure what to do and to make new friends that also live in their dorms. There are two housing dining options that are just steps away from the dorms that serve buffet-style. Also, there is a little market by the dorms for those who don't want to go out to Walmart to pick stuff up and serve meals as well. On campus, there is a huge food court that serves many different types of food: sandwiches, burgers, Asian, and local cuisines. There is a Subway, Jamba Juice, Starbucks, and Panda Express on campus as well, the latter two being recently built. VT: Which majors/programs are best represented and supported? What did you study and why? Did the university do a good job supporting your particular area of study? Gavin: UH Manoa is known for being top in the nation for Marine Biology, International Business, and Earth Sciences. My major was Meteorology, as my passion since I was young was weather. The School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology is one of the most funded schools on campus from outside sources. VT: How easy or difficult was it for you to meet people and make friends as a freshman? Does Greek life play a significant role in the campus social life? Gavin: It was easier than I thought it would be to make new friends. The dorm events, courses, and clubs are how I met my friends during my time at UH. Greek life doesn't play the biggest role, but they still have a few fraternities and sororities to choose from if you are interested. VT: How helpful is the Career Centerand other student support services?Do many reputable companies recruit on campus? Gavin: The Career Center is pretty helpful and can help you if you have any questions. During campus events (like a career fair), there are plenty of opportunities to choose from to help get insights on a career you might want. VT: How are the various study areas such aslibraries, student union, and dorm lounges? Are they over-crowded, easily available, spacious? Gavin: There are two libraries on campus and each has its own pluses to them, such as one can rent videos and one has air conditioning. For the most part, they are pretty spacious and you can usually find a space with ease, except during midterms and finals when it becomes more difficult. Dorm lounges vary randomly from being overly crowded to no one there and it depends on the time of year and day. VT: Describe the surrounding town. What kinds of outside establishments / things to do are there that make it fun, boring, or somewhere in between? To what extent do students go to the downtown area of the city versus staying near campus? Gavin: The campus is so close to pretty much anything you want. Walking distance includes a variety of restaurants such as curry or Thai food. Malls, beaches, and hiking trails are also only a short bus ride or longer walk away. Going downtown, Kailua, and other parts of the island are also a bus ride away and going to the infamous North Shore is about a 2 hour bus ride (45 minute drive). No matter the type of person you are, there is something for everyone that is not so far away. Most people stay near campus during the week and tend to go farther out when its the weekend. VT: How big or small is the student body? Were you generally pleased or displeased with the typical class sizes? Gavin: The overall student body has more than 20,000 students for a given semester and class sizes can vary widely. For example, my Intro to Chemistry class had almost 300 people, while my Meteorology Dynamics 2 course only had 5 students. But overall, I was generally happy about these numbers due to hearing friends with even more students in their classes at different schools. VT: Describe one memorable experience with a professor and/or class. Perhaps one you loved the most or one youregretthe most. Gavin: The most memorable moment for me with a teacher was with my Linear Algebra teacher. He was the best math teacher I had in the longest time. He was funny, smart, understanding, and anything you would want in a professor. He always had a smile on his face and even offered me recommendation letters to graduate schools that I applied for; I credit him for getting into the school I am in now.
